Beddington Big Day 9th May 2026

The BFBG and site warden hosted a series of six guided walks between 5am and 3pm on the restricted area of the site, which included a dawn chorus walk, a buttefly walk, and a botany walk. This day also coincided with the Cornell Lab eBird BIg Day, which celebrated World Migratory Bird Day.

It was an incredibly positive event and a total of 97 visitors were welcomed onto the site. It was great to increase the group’s outreach and engagement with others also invested in the site. Over 60 species of bird were recorded, along with plenty of butterflies and plants.

A huge thanks has to go to the site manager from Valencia Waste Management and the site warden. This event would not have been possible without their help and support on the day.

Beddington Big Day 12th September 2026

A total of 41 people joined the two BFBG bird walks on the main part of the site and the warden then provided a restoration tour. A collective total of 72 bird species were recorded and highlights included Wigeon, Pintail, Common Sandpiper, Green Sandpiper, Great Crested Grebe, Hobby, Raven, Willow Warbler, Whinchat, Stonechat, and Yellow Wagtail.

This Big Day coincided with the Wandle Fortnight, a community event which celebrates the River Wandle, its history and ecology.
